NADA YOGA ~Sanskrit Mantras by Yuki Taniguchi~

1. Gaṇeśa Śloka
vakratunḍa mahākāya sūrya koti samaprabha
nirvighnan kurume deva sarva kāryeshụ sarvadā

Oh Lord Ganesha, of the curved trunk, the large body, who shines like the luster of a million suns. Please make my life free of obstacles, forever.

2. Prātaḥsmaraṇa Stotram

prātaḥsmarāmi hṛdi samsphuradātma tattvamsat-cit-sukhaṃ paramahaṃsa gatiṃturīyamyat-svapna-jāgara-suṣuptam-avaiti nityamtadbrahma niṣkalamahaṃ na ca bhūta sanghaḥ

In the morning I remember and feel the effulgent Atman in the heart, which is always there in form of supreme consciousness. This is the state beyond the waking, dreaming and deep sleep realm, which is the ultimate goal of the sanyasins. I am That Brahmanand not the bundle of the five elements.

prātar-bhajāmi manasā vacasām-aganmyanvāco vibhānti nikhilā yadanugraheṇayanneti neti vacanaiḥ nigamā avocuḥtam deva devamajam-acyuta-māhuragryam

In the morning I contemplate upon He who is not available for the words and yet by His grace only all the words of knowledge shine. Vedas know Him by negation alone – saying ‘not this, not this’. He is the One who is described as the supreme of all the deities, free from birth and death asa well as the timeless.

prātarnamami tamasaḥ paramarka-varṇampūrnaṃ sanātana-padam puruśottamākhyamyasminnidam jagadaśesam-aśeṣa mūrtaurajjvāṃ bhujangama iva pratibhāsitaṃ vai

In the morning I salute to the Supreme Being, which is beyond the effulgence of the sun, which is full, eternal and infinite. in the limitlessness the whole universe appeared like a snake upon the rope.

Oh Gods! May we listen with our ears to only that which is worth listening for our growth. My we behold with our eyes only that which is good for us. may we enjoy and spend our lives singing Your glories with healthy body and limbs. May the Lord of Devas Indra, of great fame, bless us with auspiciousness. May the Sun god bless us with auspiciousness. May the divine eagles of unobstructed flight bless us with auspiciousness. May the Guru of Devas, Brihaspati, bless us with auspiciousness. Om Peace! Peace! Peace!

That om which manifested from the eternal vedas is the greatest among the vedic mantras and is endowed with all forms. Let that Lord strengthen me with intelligence. Oh Lord let me become upholder of knowledge which is eternal. May my physical body become fit for the spiritual pursuit of knowledge. Let my tongue be one that speaks pleasing words. May my ears listen to the scriptures more and more. You are the abode of Brahman, veiled by the knowledge of objects. May you protect my knowledge. Om Peace! Peace! Peace!

Deep gratitude to Sadhvi Abha Saraswati (Mataji) and Smt. Indu Sharma at Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishkesh for teaching me these mantras, Dr. Vagish Shasti in Varanasi for teaching me Sanskrit, and Prof. Ritwik Sanyal in Varanasi for teaching me singing.
